Isosec Announce Charity of the Year 2018

By March 1, 2018Charity

Isosec are very excited to announce the Charity of the Year 2018 is CodeYourFuture. CodeYourFuture is a non-profit organisation with the mission of helping every single refugee and asylum seeker with their dream of learning to code, finding employment in the tech industry and becoming a software developer.

Who are CodeYourFuture?

They began when the team realised the synergy between the shortage of developer talent in the UK and ensuring asylum seekers and refugees had access to the platform and opportunities they so often miss out on to learn new skills and aid integration into society.

To do this CodeYourFuture offer a free 6-month training programme that prepares refugees with the essential skills and knowledge for them to obtain their first tech role in the industry. It’s not only the education that is provided, but also a community spirit and a network of support for people who too often find themselves in unstable situations.

CodeYourFuture and Manchester

Isosec are very proud to announce this partnership and believe the work that CodeYourFuture are doing is of great importance to the tech industry in the UK. The organisation is not only encouraging learning and offering a support network to those in need but also striving for diversity across the sector, something we actively encourage and engage with.

CodeYourFuture are growing rapidly, currently 30 students across 3 cities in the UK are in training and 5 students have already found employment in tech, most recently a graduate landed a role as a stack developer at the Financial Times.

Manchester is the most recent project and started with a class of ten students and a devoted group of software developers who share their expertise and experience with the students each week. We’re remarkably proud of our very own Software Placement Student Lucy MacGlashan who is part of the Manchester team of volunteers at CodeYourFuture.

How Can You Help?

In 2018, CodeYourFuture hope to train over 100 refugees and create over 10 NGO projects. They rely solely on sponsorship and support from the industry, this is where you can help us. Isosec encourage you to donate any unwanted laptops or unused equipment, please get in touch if you think you could help with this.

Isosec will also be holding some fundraising events to support their charity of the year throughout the year so do look out for more information on those as they happen.

More info on CodeYourFuture can be found here or follow them on Twitter @CodeYourFuture_.
